Finding the Story in Light and Shadow

My photography focuses on light, contrast, and composition which take everyday places and turns them into dynamic stories.

I’m particularly interested in compositions with the human element incorporated into architectural or natural scenes giving a sense of scale.

I work with both digital and film cameras, choosing the process that will create the image I’m looking for. I have a darkroom in my basement that allows me a creative space. The process of taking the picture, developing the film and creating the print is very rewarding.

Landscape

Landscape photos with dramatic skies, reflections, weather, are what I’m looking for. I love to shoot in inclement weather using fog, snow, rain to bring out the drama in a scene or all around us in daily life.

Candid

My favorite subject to include are people, nothing adds life to a photo like an actual living thing! Street photography is one of my favorite forms of photography. Adding motion, urgency, and expression brings an otherwise boring scene to life.

Event-Music

I love capturing the raw emotion and energy that takes place in music that can’t be found anywhere else. Being at punk and metal shows in the middle of a mosh pit is a rush and excitement that can’t be found anywhere else.

Architecture

Leading lines, scale, contrast and mood are all major themes. Black and white photos are excellent at bringing this out. The weather plays a big factor in setting the tone.

There is a quote “if you want to take interesting photos, go to interesting places.” The destination does not even have to be far away.
